I make up jars of Fake-a-roni and store in jars in the pantry, just like the boxed variety. With bulk spices, rice and vermicelli it is easy to prepare several jars at once. This recipe is for one batch. All you need is a tablespoon of butter or olive oil and 3 cups water.

  1. In a one pint glass canning jar add all the dry ingredients. Seal and store in a cool dry area.
To Prepare
  1. Melt butter in a large sauce or skillet over medium heat. Add dry ingredients and cook until fragrant and slightly toasted.
  2. Add 3 cups water (or broth if not using the chicken bouillon) bring to a boil and cover. Reduce heat to low and cook covered for about 25 - 30 minutes until liquid is absorbed. Fluff with a fork and serve.

About Baking Nana

Each morning my granddaughter Sarah calls to ask, “Watcha doing, Nana? Are you baking Nana?” Hence my “name” Baking Nana.
