Holiday Appetizers

No holiday gathering would be complete without plenty of appetizers.  We eat while we cook and visit, so good appetizers are required.

English Sausage Rolls

English Sausage Rolls

English Sausage Rolls are a must.  They are very easy to make, especially if you use prepared Puff Pastry and skinless sausage, like Farmer John links.  I do two batches of these, as soon as one batch is almost gone, I put in the second batch and they are inhaled.  I don’t think I have had a ‘leftover’ sausage roll.

Bacon Blue Cheese Stuffed Mushrooms

Not everyone in the family loves mushrooms but those that do, love these Bacon Blue Cheese Stuffed Mushrooms.  Even those who think they don’t like blue cheese love these.

BTW, if you need to take an appetizer to impress, this is it.  You can make them in advance and they re-heat well.

More mushrooms and these are truly for the the blue cheese lovers in the family.

Fortunately for me, we have quite a few mushroom / blue cheese lovers.

Trader Joe’s sells a balsamic glaze that is awesome drizzled over these mushrooms.

Shrimp sauteed in garlic

Shrimp Sauteed with Garlic and Butter is a step up from the standard Shrimp Cocktail.  These are easy to prepare and is a stellar appetizer.

Try Garlic Aioli for a different dipping sauce.

Marinated Grilled Shrimp 003 ASpeaking of Shrimp, these Marinated Grilled Shrimp are awesome on the grill but this recipe is also great  done in the oven. Oven directions are included at the bottom of the recipe.
These are fabulous warm or chilled.

Tomato Bruschetta

Double Tomato Bruschetta is a must.  A true 5 star recipe and was featured in the Allrecipes magazine.
Serve hot or serve the topping like a dip for bread toasts or Pita Chips.

About Baking Nana

Each morning my granddaughter Sarah calls to ask, "Watcha doing, Nana? Are you baking Nana?" Hence my "name" Baking Nana. I am a mother to three wonderful children and a grandmother to 12 very hungry grandkids. I don't bake fancy cakes but I do make wonderful yeast bread and home cooked meals made with love.

  1. I will be using some of these for upcoming football parties! They all look gorgeous, but the only one I’ve tried is the bruschetta–which is truly a 5-star! I know what to do now with the sausage I have in the freezer!

    • The sausage rolls are perfect for football gatherings. Well, they are perfect for about any gathering plus they are EASY.
      Have a wonderful holiday.
